The Film Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition titled Voyance by artist François Delagnes.
Beginning along the Wild Coast of Loire-Atlantique, my research gradually expanded to other coastal territories, notably the Alabaster Coast in Normandy, where my studio is based, and the Vermeille Coast. These sites, each deeply connected to the history of painting, have become distinct chapters within a single ongoing exploration—a correspondence that has evolved over the years.
For this exhibition, presented at The Film Gallery and drawing on Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s reflections on vision in Eye and Mind (1961), I have developed a body of work centred on landscape, its perception, and the phenomena that traverse it. The encounter between maritime and terrestrial spaces has progressively become central to my practice.
Working across photography, painting, and experimental cinema, I bring these different mediums into dialogue with one another and with their respective histories. Through them, I explore the relationship between body, space, gaze, and place, seeking to approach landscape as an experience of perception rather than a mere representation. I consider the body—its interiority, its physical envelope, its posture—in relation to its surroundings, in order to extend the experience of the visible world.

The Film Gallery a le plaisir de présenter une exposition intitulée : « Voyance » de l’artiste François Delagnes.
En partant de la côte sauvage en Loire Atlantique, ces recherches se sont ensuite étendues à d’autres territoires littoraux, notamment la Côte d’Albâtre en Normandie où se trouve mon atelier et la Côte Vermeille. Cette triangulation entre ces sites qui ont marqué l'histoire de la peinture constitue aujourd’hui les différents chapitres d’une même exploration, une correspondance établie au fil des années.
Dans cette exposition présentée à The Film Gallery et nourrie par la réflexion de Maurice Merleau-Ponty sur la vision (L'œil et l'esprit, 1961), j'ai développé un travail centré sur le paysage, sa perception et les phénomènes qui le traversent. La confrontation entre l’espace maritime et l’espace terrestre est progressivement devenue le cœur de ma pratique.
À travers la photographie, la peinture, le cinéma expérimental, je fais dialoguer ces différents médiums avec leurs histoires respectives et j’explore les relations qui s’établissent entre : « corps, espace, regard et lieu » pour transformer le paysage en expérience de perception plutôt qu'en simple représentation, penser et connecter le corps, son intérieur, son enveloppe, sa posture avec son « tout autour » pour prolonger l'expérience du monde visible.
